Somatic Experiencing®: A Somatic Therapy Approach for Trauma Recovery and Nervous System Regulation

Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) is a gentle, body-based approach to healing chronic stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Rooted in neuroscience and developed by Dr. Peter Levine, this somatic therapy method helps regulate the nervous system by working with the body’s natural capacity to heal.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, Somatic Experiencing® focuses on tracking physical sensations in the present moment. This allows your body to gradually release the stored energy of unresolved stress or trauma—often linked to survival responses like fight, flight, or freeze. When these responses are overridden or stuck, they can lead to symptoms such as:
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder and CPTSD
  • Chronic pain
  • Digestive issues
  • Insomnia
  • Irritability and anger
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Cognitive fog, overwhelm, and intellectualization

In SE™, we believe your body knows how to move toward regulation and ease. Together, we gently build awareness of your nervous system patterns, allowing trauma to be renegotiated—not relived. Over time, clients often report a growing sense of calm, resilience, and connection with their body and emotions.
I offer trauma-informed somatic therapy to individuals in Columbus, Ohio and beyond. You can work with me for:
  • Somatic therapy in Columbus, Ohio
  • Online somatic therapy in Ohio, Colorado, New Jersey, Connecticut, Washington, and Florida
Whether you're navigating burnout, trauma, high stress, or simply feeling disconnected, somatic therapy can help you come home to yourself—with more ease, wholeness, and presence.
