Somatic Experiencing
Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) is a gentle, mind-body approach for recovery from chronic stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma. In SE™, the belief is held that a person's body holds the innate capacity to heal and move toward self-regulation.
SE™ was developed by Dr. Peter Levine based on animals in the wild and their ability to respond to threat and successfully discharge the energy associated with the survival responses fight, flight, and freeze. Humans have the same capabilities to self-regulate but in modern society often override this response. When this happens, symptoms from the trauma and stress in the nervous system begin to manifest, like post-traumatic stress, chronic pain, anger, anxiety, depression, insomnia, digestive issues, difficulty with relationships, and cognitive difficulties.
Practitioners of SE™ know that our nervous systems hold the innate capacity to move toward healing. In the work, we will focus together on awareness of bodily sensations in the here and now to renegotiate the trauma and allow you to connect with your inner resiliency and wellness. Over time, your body and mind begin to integrate and lead toward a natural ease and sense of wholeness in which you can experience the fullness of life.
I offer somatic therapy to those in Columbus, Ohio and beyond, including somatic therapy in Ohio, somatic therapy in Colorado, and somatic therapy in Florida.
