Creative Therapy
More than just talking about your week, therapy can be a place to explore your internal world through creativity. For many, even mentioning creative practices, like making art, can be scary because of experiences they have had in school or the idea that one needs to be an "artist" to dive into art.
In actuality, creativity can be an incredible tool in therapy and in life. Through support and connection, we can use art as a ways to access your internal word, allowing us to process and explore experiences that can bring healing, inspiration, and transformation. Creating and viewing art can have incredibly positive impacts on your brain and nervous system. |
Creative practices can be particularly helpful when we have, for whatever reason, detached from our own experiences. This can occur when we've experienced trauma, are under high stress, or if we learned to navigate life through a lens of rationality, disconnecting from our emotions, bodies, and creativity. Many of us may be intellectualizers - intelligent, logical, and very able to observe our own experiences, but we still find ourselves stuck, unsure of what we want for ourselves and how to move forward.
In our sessions, we can use various types of creative practices combined with somatic and developmental work so that you can reconnect to yourself - no art experience needed! The sky is the limit with creative practices in therapy - we may find ourselves using clay, paint, pencil, paper, collage - many times we can make use of materials you have at home! Join me in diving into this exploration into yourself and get started on finding yourself.
